Attic Safety Handrail Framing

Some attic stairs and floors don't have handrails for safety.

If you're doing an attic conversion or are thinking about safety, you should install a safety handrail or guardrail.

These guardrail should be at least 42 inches tall to provide adequate safety for everyone.

Most older homes with a stairway leading up to the attic, will not have a safety handrail if the situation is like the picture above.

These handrails can be installed if you think there's going to be a problem, with people using the attic or the stairway.

Most of of the time these attic storage areas have doors and these doors can be locked somehow to prevent other people from entering the attic.

This would be especially useful for young children, who might start spending time up there, as another place to play for hide from their parents.

The more people that have access and use this storage area, the greater the chances of someone falling and getting hurt.

You could always build a safety handrail with some 2 x 4's and plywood.

This could be quite inexpensive and at the same time provide safety for anyone using the attic.
