Wood Post Repairs
Any damage to wood posts should be taken seriously.
Usually these posts are supporting beams and large amounts of weight.
Damage to these posts would include cracks, holes from insects like
termites, dry rot and large knots that are loose or causing the post to
buckle.
Wood posts that are sitting directly on concrete or dirt are susceptible
to wood rot in termites. The minimum distance between soil and wood is 6
inches. However, termites can build tunnels on concrete or metal
supports if needed for their attack on your home.
Termite damage and wood rot is the number one cause of post-failure. If
your post is under sized for the load its caring, it could easily split
apart and cause unbelievable damage to your home.
Simply using the proper post supports can prolong the life of your wood
post.
