Missing Attic Insulation

Don't be too alarmed if you are looking in your attic and you find missing insulation, you can simply go down to any home improvement store or lumberyard, purchase more and fill in the missing spots.

In the picture above, the insulation is definitely missing, but it is not necessary to insulate in the ceiling, above a porch or outdoor area.

If you look closely, you can see the stucco or cement in this area. This would be the first time of and exterior area.

On the other hand, if you were looking at drywall or plaster, this would probably be located above the living area and therefore would need the proper attic insulation.

This is the front door entrance to the home and does not require installation. If you chose to fill this area in with insulation, you would be wasting your money.

Home repairs like this are simple, just make sure that you're careful, walking around in your attic.

You can only step on the framing members and if you were to step on the drywall or plaster, you could find yourself falling right through the attic and ending up in a bedroom or maybe even the living room.

Home Repair Tip - If you're not comfortable walking around in your ceiling and the missing insulation isn't that far from the attic access hole, you could always grab a long stick and use the stick to push the insulation over the missing area. This is what the professionals often do in tight and hard to access areas of the attic.
