Minimum Access In Crawlspace

The minimum distance between the bottom of the floor joist and the top of the soil shall not be less than 18 inches.

The minimum distance between the bottom of the floor girder bean and the top of the soil shall be no less than 12 inches.

These distances provide adequate access for the average person who needs to make necessary repairs underneath the floor.

There aren't any building requirements yet for cobwebs, spiders or other insects yet.

Home Repair Tip: If there are a lot of cobwebs underneath your home or in your attic, simply take a large stick, broom handle or something about 4 foot long, with you to remove the spider webs as you move through the crawl space.

Anyone who has a fear of tight spaces or is claustrophobic, shouldn't go into tight areas like these crawl spaces.
