Fungus On Roof Shingles
Now what could be causing fungus to
grow on wood roof shingles, underneath a composition roof. I've got
three words for you, water, moisture and of course more moisture.
Whenever wood is wet for a long period of time, there could be multiple
things growing on them, one of these things can be be fungus.
Here's a good example of some of the problems that you might have later
on, when you don't follow the manufacturers recommended installation
instructions. Make sure that you always read the installation
instructions and they're usually located on the individual composition
roof shingle packages.
Here's another case where you get what you pay for. Someone decided to
roof their home on their own and try to save a couple of dollars, or the
homeowner actually hired someone that they thought were competent
roofers. Either way, a little bit of research, could have saved this
homeowner a few dollars.
What were looking at in the picture above, is fungus growing at the edge
of the roof facia board. There's a good chance, that there is more
fungus, mold or mildew, growing underneath the composition roofing.
Whenever you run into a situation like this, there's a good chance that
this isn't the only spot on your roof, that has fungus growing on it.
Home Repair Tip: I would definitely recommend removing the two layers of
roofing and replacing the roof. If you are going to replace the roof
yourself, I would suggest that you use caution, when walking on your
roof.
You could have structural problems, underneath your roofing materials,
especially if the fungus is starting to damage the roof sheeting.
