Exterior Upper Wood Post Damage

One of the biggest problems with wood and water damage is the fact that you're not going to be able to see it sometimes until you start to do some construction investigating. In the picture above, it doesn't look like anything is wrong with the wood post or 2 x 6 with trim.

The exterior structural beams were still in pretty good shape and if you look close enough you will notice four galvanized nails that remained in place after the damaged wood post was removed.

The section of the upper wood post that suffered the most from water damage wasn't this section that was underneath the deck, instead it was the area that was constantly exposed to water rolling off of the upper deck.
